Carlinville didn’t win regionals this year, but the team will still be well represented at the Class 1A state track and field meet this Thursday in Charleston.

The Cavaliers will send a relay team, as well as four other event qualifiers to state, making a total of six total athletes heading to Eastern Illinois University.

Litchfield outlasted New Berlin 86-69 to win the girls regional. Hillsboro was third at 55, Auburn fourth at 53 and the Cavaliers fifth at 52 points.

Carlinville’s Emma Smith cleared 10-feet-six inches to win the regional and head to Charleston this weekend in the pole vault competition.

Rachel Olroyd was in a tight pack of four runners in the 800-meter run in the finals on Thursday. Olroyd came from behind down the final 200 meters, overtaking Lutheran’s Maddy Eck, Litchfield’s Alexis Throne and Lutheran’s Brigid Tournoux to win the 800 in a time of 2:22.77. All four would qualify for state, however.
