Cavaliers receive top-seed for regional

Carlinville High School’s varsity softball team, which carried a 13-7 record into a road game at Hardin-Calhoun May 7, is the top-seeded team in an IHSA Class 2A North Mac Regional set for May 13-18.

CHS gets a first-round bye and will take on the winner of No. 5 North Mac and No. 4 Auburn Tuesday, May 14, at North Mac at 4:30 p.m. North Mac and Auburn are scheduled to play May 13.

The other portion of the bracket includes No. 6 Gillespie facing No. 3 Hillsboro May 13, with the winner taking on No. 2 Litchfield Wednesday, May 15, at 4:30.

The regional championship is set for Saturday, May 18, with the winners of both semifinal contests competing at 11 a.m. at North Mac.

Other county schools
Southwestern is the No. 1 seed in the Class 2A Roxana Regional. The Piasa Birds will take on the winner of No. 5 Dupo and No. 4 East Alton-Wood River Tuesday, May 14.

Staunton is the No. 3 seed in the Roxana Regional and takes on No. 2 Roxana Wednesday, May 15. The Roxana Regional championship is set for May 18 at 11 a.m.

Bunker Hill is the No. 2 seed in the Class 1A Metro East Lutheran Edwardsville Regional. The Minutemaids face No. 3 Metro East Lutheran Wednesday, May 15, at 4:30 p.m. with the winner moving on to the championship contest Saturday, May 18, at 11 a.m.

Greenfield/Northwestern is the No. 4 seed in the Class 1A Carrollton Regional. The team faces No. 5 Pleasant Hill May 13 with the winner advancing to take on No. 1 Carrollton May 14.
