Several Carlinville High School cross country runners recently took part in a camp hosted by Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

Those participating from CHS were Austin Landon, Kamryn Bremer, Lea Viano, Colleen Madden, Cory Landon and Nolan Kreipe.

The camp took place June 25-29 and there were more than 100 high school runners from throughout Illinois.

This cross country camp has been going since 1972, and is one of the longest running camps in the country.

Carlinville always sends a group of runners each year to train with other athletes from other schools. During the week the boys usually run around 60 miles and the girls 50 miles.

“They learn about training and other fundamentals of cross country and how to become a better runner,” CHS cross country coach Mike Viano said. “It’s just a great time for all the kids.”
