Carlinville football booklet orders taken until Sept. 30
Carlinville High School football parents, players, alumni, and fans will be interested in a new booklet that details the rich history of the Cavalier football program from 1979 to 2014.
Carlinville Football 1979-2014 is a complete list of the scores and players from each season of Cavalier football over the last 36 years. The project is presented by The Goodman Agency and Carlinville Eye Care.
The work is the creation of Tom Emery, a Carlinville author who has written twenty-five book and booklet titles, including a well-received 25th anniversary commemoration of the Carlinville High School fire in 2012.
Emery’s latest work lists the scores, dates, and opponents of every Carlinville football game, as well as a listing of each player from every season of Cavalier football, since 1979. A short highlights section is included for each season, which looks at some of the top plays, players, and games from each fall.
Carlinville Football 1979-2014 is intended, at best, as a supplement to the 1978 hardcover history of Carlinville football by the late Richard McLaughlin, a popular teacher and coach, which covered the Cavaliers from 1913-1978.
“It’s not an update, revision, or any sort of improvement on what Mr. McLaughlin did,” said Emery. “I just wanted to create a brief recent history of Carlinville football.”
This project is a separate undertaking from Emery’s ongoing research projects on the history of Carlinville High School sports, which will benefit the Carlinville Public Schools Foundation.
The booklet has been reviewed by Pat Drew, a former Carlinville player and current Carlinville High principal; John Reels, another former Carlinville player and current assistant coach; and Wes Loveless, one of the founding members of the Carlinville Football Club.
Carlinville Football 1979-2014 sells for $10, and quantities will be limited. Anyone wanting a copy should reserve their order with payment no later than September 30, 2015. Orders received after that date are not guaranteed to be filled. Delivery is expected after October 1.
The booklet will make a family keepsake, a great gift, or a collection of memories for anyone that has ever played or followed Carlinville High School football.
Emery will deliver booklets free of charge within the Carlinville city limits, and will make arrangements for free pickup for rural customers in the Carlinville school district. He will also pick up orders to reserve copies of the booklet.
