Carlinville Elks host Golf Tournament
On Friday July 26, the Carlinville Elks hosted their 14th Annual Children’s Care Golf Tournament at the Carlinville Country Club. Tourney Chairman T. J. Johnson assembled 22 teams in two flights of golfers for the 18 hole match play. Various prizes for longest drive, closest putt and longest putt were handed out.
The winning team of flight A, Damon Nejmanowski, Bernard Dzafic, Quinn Steiner and John Wynn shot a 14 under par 58 to take home the top prize of $400 and donated back $100 to the Children’s Care. Flight B’s winning team was TDRS who donated their $200 prize back to the Children Care Charity.
After the day on the links everyone came back to the Elks Lodge for a rib eye steak dinner cooked by the Carlinville Elks kitchen crew lead by Don Wills. In addition, all prizes earned on the golf course were distributed.
Assisting chairman T. J. Johnson with organizing the tournament was Wayne Wiltshire. Many others helping with the event throughout the day were: Robb Ross and his wife Beth, Buggs Goodwin, John “Gunner” Gunning, Jim “Whales” Waley, Don Brandon, Rob McWhinnie, Niki Summers, Peggy Ditch, Joleen Hammann, Mandy Anderson and Betty Rutherford. In attendance and playing golf was Illinois Elks State Chairman of the Children’s Care Corporation, Bill Block, from Springfield.
T. J. Johnson has chaired this tournament for all 14 years and along with calendar sales, car washes, bake sales and bowling marathons nearly $130,000 has been donated to the Elks Children’s Care Corporation. These funds are used state wide to assist families with handicap children and their many needs such as wheel chairs, leg braces, and doctor visits.
This year’s tournament netted $4,500 for the organization.
The Carlinville Elks would like to thank everyone who sponsored a team, sponsored a hole, donated prizes, and all who assisted with the food and refreshments.
