Carlinville boys win own cross country invite

Carlinville boys cross country team won their own invitational Tuesday afternoon at Loveless Park, while the girls team finished second.

Cory Landon won the boys race in a time of 15:27 to pace Carlinville, while teammate Nolan Kreipe, who led the race early, finished third at 15:38.

Jason Landon at 16:39 and Charles Helton IV at 16:45 finished ninth and 10th, and Grayson Armour at 16:56 finished 12th.

Samuel Mock took 19th at 17:13, while Jacob Landon was 27th at 17:37 and Bailey Lippold 28th at 17:37. Xavier Lewis finished 41st in 18:30; Seth Evans was 100th at 20:21Jack Kufa 112th at 20:42.

In the team competition, Carlinville with five of the top 12 scores finished with 35 points, ahead of Freeburg at 61, Breese Mater Dei at 99, Rochester at 17:28 and East Alton-Wood River 162. There were 16 teams competing. Staunton and Gillespie were other area schools competing.

The Bulldogs were led by Logan Cayce, 43rd at 18:32. Gillespie’s top runner was Brandon Slone, 59th at 19:00. The Miners finished 16th in team competition with 402 points. Staunton was11th at 318.

Carlinville finished second to a stout Rochester squad in the girls race at Loveless Park.

Pana’s Claudia Magnussen led the pack of runners at 17:57. Rochester had the second and third place finishers with Madeline Campbell and Ellie Tjelmeland at 18:01 and 18:28.

The Cavies were led by Colleen Madden’s 18:36, good for fifth place overall. Jacey Roper finished sixth at 18:46. Madelynn Williams took 25th and 20:06 and Molly Lewis was 26th at 20:12. Stasia Nejmanowski finished 38th at 20:59 and Ryleigh Gibbel was 40th at 21:02. Mackenzie Harris finished 50th at 21:33. Kamryn Bremer was 53rd at 21:41; Bailey Cox was 82nd at 23:45; Rachel Strubbe 85th at 23:48; and Abby Fleischer 137th at 31:15.

In team competition, Carlinville trailed only Rochester. The Rockets had 31 points with five of the top 14 scores, and the Cavies had 94 points for second. Litchfield (95), Springfield Lutheran (100) and Breese Mater Dei (122) finished out the top five of 13 teams. Locally, Staunton placed 10th 2ith 299 and Gillespie 12th at 326.

Staunton’s top runner, LeaAnn Johnson, was 35th overall at 20:51. Gillespie was led by Sam Alepra at 23:04, good for 68th overall.

Carlinville Middle School also had a race before the high school races. In girls action, Carlinville’s Katie Schmidt was sixth at 18:18; Lexie Dawson 7th at 18:27; Haley Hancock 9th at 18:46; Samantha Eulberg 10th at 19:26; and Kara Rosentreter 13th at 20:26.

The boys race had Ethan Siglock winning the race at 13:34; Braden Ford third at 14:05; Cale Williams fourth at 14:33; Cameron Strubbe 5th at 14:39; Damon Sharp 6th at 15:14; Hayden Bellem 8th at 15:23; Collin Krepie 9th at 15:38 and David Harris 10th at 15:49.

Additionally, Treiton Park finished at 16:08; Caden Barkley 16:13; Dane Rosentreter 16:24; Case Jones 17:27; Matthew Reynolds 18:09; Brock Henson 19:20; Carter Lowrance 19:35; Ashton Brookens 23:14; Peter Lopez 23:57; Jacob Petrovich 26:03 and Briley Roper 26:04.
