Carlinville baseball wraps up summer season
Carlinville’s summer baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Southwestern in Brighton July 8.
Carlinville lost the first game 9-5. The team held a 3-2 lead and the contest was later tied 5-5 before Southwestern pushed across four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Jeffrey Hart contributed two hits in the contest for Carlinville.
Dalton Jamieson was the losing pitcher for Carlinville.
In the nightcap, Joeb Easterday started for Carlinville and was later relieved by Jake Carter as Southwestern earned a 7-4 victory.
Carlinville was unable to make an early 2-1 lead hold up. Southwestern scored four runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-2 lead.
Bryce DeSpain contributed two hits for Carlinville in the three-run loss.
In eight games this summer, the team has gone 4-4.
Those participating for Carlinville this year have included Ben Rogers, Jeffrey Hart, Bryce DeSpain, Joeb Easterday, Jake Carter, Dalton Jamieson, Brayton Gibbs and Eric Pingolt. In addition, Jarett Easterday and Nick Havlin also have filled occasionally.
Under Armour National Tryout
DeSpain took part in a tryout July 7 at Sauget for the Under Armour National Tryouts.
DeSpain plays catcher for Carlinville High School and recently finished competing with the Carlinville summer league team.
As part of the program, DeSpain was selected to take part in a week of competition at the Pittsburgh Pirates spring training facility in Bradenton, Fla. this December.
The tryouts are for those ages 14 to 18.
