Card, Olympics discus, ready for takeoff
Kelsey Card is in Rio de Janeiro, preparing for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in the discus for Team USA.
She took part in Friday’s Opening Ceremonies and was shown on national television’s NBC coverage entering behind Michael Phelps carrying the United States flag.
Card was also shown at various other times throughout the United States introduction to the games, by various cameras of NBC.
Her event, the discus, takes the preliminary stage on Monday evening around 6:30 p.m. C.D.T. with Group A. The Group B athletes will start around 7:50 p.m. C.D.T. It is unclear which group that Card will be placed. The discus prelims and finals take place at Olympic Stadium in Rio.
Card enters the event ranked 16th in the world. The top 12 advance to Tuesday’s finals, which will take place Tuesday morning at 9:20 a.m.
The victory ceremony takes place at 8:35 p.m Tuesday evening.
Various support has been shown throughout Macoupin County and Carlinville. Card is a 2011 graduate of Carlinville High School; and a 2016 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, where she was NCAA Division I national champion this past spring in the discus.
