Car show, tours, ice cream and more at
The Carlinville Community Chamber of Commerce and the Macoupin County Cruisers are presenting the Cruise-In Saturday, July 27, at the Carlinville Square.
There will be events around town for much of the day. In addition to the car show, there will be courthouse tours, dance performances, a costume contest and other live entertainment, concluding with the Rotary Club’s Ice Cream Social and the Carlinville Municipal Band Concert, set for 7 p.m.
The festivities begin at 7:30 a.m. with a 5K run. Registration will be at Body Fit at 935 East Morgan Street.
The race starts at Body Fit, goes to Blackburn College, winds its way south to the county courthouse and finishes up at Body Fit. The cost to register for the 5K race, which is themed “Rock the Run,” is $20.
The Cruise-In/Car Show kicks off at 9 a.m. on the Square with cars, trucks, antique tractors and motorcycles. The event includes music, live entertainment and a 50-50 drawing.
To enter a car, the Cruise-In cost is $10 while the Car Show entry fee to be judged is $15. The fee enters participants for door prize drawings and the first 100 participants will receive a gift bag.
The Eagle Riders, a group of international motorcycle riders traveling Route 66, from Chicago to Los Angeles, are scheduled to arrive between 9:30 and 10 a.m.
Visitors will have the opportunity to take photos of themselves sitting in the Radio Flyer car for $2. Those interested are encouraged to bring their own camera.
Dance performances by Fancy Feet Dance Studio in Carlinville are set for 11 a.m.
Live entertainment from the Barbershop Quartet and Dan St. Onge is scheduled for 11:15 a.m.
Proceeds from the event go toward the Carlinville School District’s extra-curricular activities.
Refuge Coffee House will feature grilled burgers, bratwurst and hot dogs in the parking area in front of the restaurant from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In addition, from 1-3 p.m., the band “Tiedyed” is scheduled to perform inside the Refuge Coffee House.
Participating stores around the Square will have racks of items available outside July 27.
The Carlinville Chamber’s tourism committee will present tours of the historic Macoupin County Courthouse from 1-3 p.m. The tours, which are $3 for adults and $1 for kids, are one block east of the Square.
Each tour will feature a scavenger hunt for children.
Tourism t-shirts now available
New Carlinville Tourism T-shirts will be available at the Cruise-In on the Route 66 Square.
The T-shirts feature Lincoln’s stovepipe hat on a Route 66 sign, just like the welcome banners in Carlinville.
The back of the shirts have the slogan “Carlinville Illinois — Where Lincoln Walked and Route 66 Rolled.”
Sales of the T-shirts fund the Chamber’s Carlinville Tourism Committee programs and events.
Ice cream social from 6-8 p.m.
The Carlinville Rotary Club will host its annual Ice Cream Social Saturday, July 27, from 6-8 p.m. at the Square.
Prairie Farms ice cream, chocolate and vanilla, along with baked goods such as cakes, pies, brownies, cookies, cupcakes, cobblers prepared by local Rotarians will be served at the annual all-you-can-eat event.
In the event of inclement weather, the outing will be moved inside the Knights of Columbus Hall on the north side of the Square.
The social typically is held on a Friday evening in July but was switched to Saturday in an effort to have a full day of events at the Square.
