CAH blood drive May 3

Carlinville Area Hospital Auxiliary will host its second blood drive of the year from noon to 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 3, at the Carlinville Elks Lodge. Each donor who registers will receive a voucher for a t-shirt that says either “I Bleed Cubs Blue” or “I Bleed Cardinals Red.”
Blood drive coordinator Joan Klaus explained that the t-shirts are compliments of the Central Illinois Community Blood Center, which conducts the Auxiliary drive and others in the Carlinville area. “We’re proud that we offer our donors some extra benefits, such as the $25 bank-sponsored gift cards we award in random drawings; our escort services; the full-service food table offering sandwiches, cookies and drinks to those who have just donated; and our assistance in updating donors’ donation records,” said Klaus. “Those are in addition to the free, confidential mini health screening that is performed prior to every donation. So mark your calendars for May 3 to also get in on this t-shirt giveaway that comes just in time for the baseball season and the great rivalry here between the Cubs and Cardinals fans. Of course, the greatest benefit of all in a blood drive is the knowledge that your blood is going to help save a life somewhere in our local CICBC region.”
Klaus reminds donors to call (217) 241-7550 to make an appointment if their time is limited, eat something within two hours before donating, and bring photo identification. Prospective donors may also walk in at any time during the drive.
Donors should be in good general health, weigh at least 112 pounds, be age 17 (16 with parental consent) and not have donated blood within the last 56 days.
