CAH Auxiliary to host blood drive Sept. 3
Carlinville Area Hospital Auxiliary will host its last blood drive of 2014 from noon to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 3, at the Elks Lodge.
“Of all the programs that the Auxiliary manages, the blood drives and the Lifeline program have the most important and immediate impact on peoples’ health and our community’s well being,” said blood-drive coordinator Char Genta. “Our goal with the blood drives is always to collect 100 pints, and we’d like to close out our year by reaching or exceeding that number. We encourage first-timers to give it a try and find out just how easy and gratifying it is, so they will come back and bring family members and friends. And we always count on our regular contributors to come out again and keep our collection numbers high.”
Genta pointed out that this is not the last blood drive of the year in Carlinville. “There will be other drives throughout the rest of the year that are sponsored by other organizations here in town, so there will be more opportunities to donate,” she said. “But from one drive to another, the supply of blood goes down, sometimes to dangerously low levels. So we really do urge all eligible donors to come to the Elks Lodge on Sept. 3.”
The blood drive will be conducted by the staff of the Central Illinois Community Blood Center, and each person who registers will receive a free, confidential health screening on-site. The approximately 45-minute donation process follows the screening, and free refreshments follow the donation. Each person who registers will receive a t-shirt and be eligible to win one of three $25 gift cards in a random drawing at the end of the day.
The Auxiliary encourages repeat donors to bring their donation record cards so Auxiliary volunteers can add this contribution to previous ones and recognize significant cumulative donations.
Walk-in donors are welcome. Donors who require an appointment may call (217) 241-7550.
