Bunker Hill woman dies in Monday crash

BUNKER HILL (Jan. 11, 2018) – A 32-year-old woman died as the result of a single-vehicle accident that occurred Monday morning, Jan. 8, on Brighton Bunker Hill Road near Elliott Road, west of Bunker Hill.

According to information released by Macoupin County Coroner Brad Targhetta, Heather E. Frith of Bunker Hill had been westbound on Brighton Bunker Hill Road when she lost control of the vehicle and it left the roadway, overturning in a ravine. The vehicle caught on fire and was fully involved upon the arrival of emergency personnel. Macoupin Count Sheriff’s Department and Bunker Hill Police Department secured the scene, and Bunker Hill Fire/Rescue assisted in extricating Frith from the vehicle; she was alone in the vehicle.

Targhetta pronounced Frith dead at 7:50 a.m. No autopsy has been scheduled; a preliminary cause of death is blunt force trauma. Toxicology results are pending.

The family had not selected a funeral home as of press time.
