Carlinville will again be well-represented at the Illinois Elementary School Association Class 2A state track and field meet this weekend.

The Warriors competed in the seventh and eighth grade track and field Class AA Sectional 39, hosted by Franklin Middle School in Springfield last Saturday.  A total of 16 schools were represented from across central Illinois.

At the end of the day, 16 CMS athletes had qualified for the state meet, several of them setting personal bests along the way.

During competition there are four separate teams competing.  The boys team and girls team is further broken up into seventh grade and eighth grade teams.  Athletes are allowed to compete up in age but not down.  Each team is allowed to enter up to two athletes per event.

Starting with the girls teams, they were able to qualify six athletes plus a relay alternate. Nearly every athlete set a personal record during their qualifying effort or Saturday. The qualifiers were:

Adrienne Tracy in the seventh grade 100-meter dash; Annabelle Hulin in the seventh grade 800-meter run, setting a personal record; Ella Walker, in the seventh grade  discus throwing a personal record;  Farris Howard, in the seventh grade  high jump, clearing a personal best; and the eighth grade 4 x 100 meter relay team of Jillian Stayton, Eryn Seal, Whitney Stahl, Adrienne Tracy also set a PR.  They will be joined by alternate Sophie Rufatto.

On the boys side, nine individuals qualified.  Most of the qualifiers came from the field events with the remaining qualifiers coming from relays.

The qualifiers were: Colton Robinson, in the seventh grade shot put.  Robinson not only set a personal record but was the Sectional champion; Levi Yudinsky, in the seventh grade pole vault; Luke Daugherty, in the seventh grade pole vault. Daugherty was the Sectional champion.

The 4 x 200 meter relay made up of Jake Egelhoff, Mason Patton, Luke Daugherty, Drew Richardson.  This team not only set a personal record but also broke a school record that was set in 1988.

The 4X400 relay made up of Mason Patton, Drew Richardson, Levi Yudinsky, Luke Daugherty  set a  personal record to qualify.

Bobby Seal, in the eighth grade Long jump;  Mason Drake, in the eighth grade pole vault, setting a personal record; and Dustin Roberts, in the eighth grade pole vault also advanced to state.

All of these athletes will be traveling to Peoria May 19-20 to compete in the IESA AA state finals.
