Building/grounds discuss renovations, purchases
CARLINVILLE (July 5, 2018) – The main topic of discussion for Macoupin County Board’s building and grounds meeting on July 2 was the possible lease or purchase of county property where the old hospital clinic is located, in the 200 block of East Main Street next door to Heinz Funeral Home.
Clay Heinz was the potential buyer. Questions were asked of Heinz about how the property would be used; he stated that it would be used as a parking lot for Heinz Funeral Home and that the old clinic would be demolished. No pricing or bids were set as it was something that was being brought to the committee’s attention.
The committee also discussed renovations of the traffic office including tearing out the carpet and redoing the walls in the office. Macoupin County Circuit Clerk Lee Ross had concerns about the project, including displaced workers, how long the project would take and the necessity of the project based on the previous two factors. No decisions have been made.
The last item of discussion was a potential storage garage in the area of the old clinic. It would be a steel 30 by 40 building, 12 feet tall and with bay doors that are 10 feet. This storage garage would hold files and things from the old clinic. The garage was discussed with Heinz to assure that if Heinz were to purchase the property, he would allow the storage garage to be built there; he agreed.
