Blood drive planned May 2
CARLINVILLE (April 12, 2018) – Carlinville Area Hospital Auxiliary will host its second blood drive of the year from 12-6 p.m., Wednesday, May 2, at the Carlinville Elks Lodge.
“Besides the opportunity to be a hero by saving a life, we have some additional incentives again this time,” said drive coordinator Joan Klaus. “Besides the three bank-donated $25 gift cards, we’ll have a variety of t-shirts on hand in a variety of sizes to give away, for as long as our supply at the lodge holds up. We will also give away to every person who registers a coupon for 20 percent off at the CAH Retail Therapy gift shop in the hospital lobby. Our own Auxiliary is donating the coupons.”
It is a custom at Auxiliary-sponsored blood drives to ask a local church to provide sandwiches, cookies and other snacks for the rest and relaxation canteen table after donors have finished giving blood. “This time, volunteers from the United Methodist Church have agreed to prepare and serve the food that will help start the blood regeneration process,” said Klaus. “The food table is also a nice way for donors to meet and get to know each other.”
Auxiliary blood drives are coordinated by Auxiliary volunteers, but the actual donation process is conducted by the professional nurses of the Central Illinois Community Blood Center, headquartered in Springfield. CICBC conducts most, if not all, of the Carlinville-area blood drives and supplies blood to 16 counties and 15 hospitals in the central Illinois region.
The process takes about 45 minutes and includes a free, confidential short-form health screening. Donors with not much time to spare may call (217) 241-7550 to make an appointment. All others are welcome to walk in and donate any time during the drive.
