Blood drive collects 46 pints
CARLINVILLE (May 16, 2018) – The May 2 blood drive sponsored by the Carlinville Area Hospital Auxiliary and held at the Carlinville Elks Lodge netted 46 pints of blood. Of the 52 potential donors who registered, 48 competed the process, with a net result of 46 pints collected.
Drive coordinator Joan Klaus had hoped for more but was pleased with the number of first-time donors and the ones who reached donation milestone marks. “We count on our ‘regulars’ each time, but we always try to bring in new donors or those who have donated before but missed out for some time,” she said.
First-time donors at this drive included Dean and Wendy Sexton of Plainview; Laura Gray of Hettick; and Nancy Coomer, Margaret Fehr, Kristin Griffel, Courtney Klaus, Brandie Thursby, Linda and Larry Snyder and Xiu Ying Yang, all of Carlinville.
Reaching cumulative milestones were Les Totsch, 22 gallons; James Lonergan, 11 gallons; Joy Duncan, Roberta Hamel and Steve Nicholson, eight gallons each; Tom Broaddus, six gallons; Patty Bouillon and Gary Graham, four gallons; and Terry Blevins, one gallon.
“We thank every single one of our donors and hope that they will bring their friends, family members and neighbors to the next Carlinville blood drive,” said Klaus.
Winning the $25 bank-donated gift cards in the random drawing were Kendra Harris (United Community Bank), Wendy Sexton (CNB Bank and Trust) and Leland Smith (U.S. Bank).
Klaus thanked the Auxiliary’s regular suppliers and volunteers for their contributions to the drive: United Methodist Church for the sandwiches, cookies and coffee; Prairie Farms for the juice and milk; the Elks Lodge for hosting; the Lions Club for setup and take-down; and the Auxiliary’s volunteers for registration, record-keeping and escort services.
The next Carlinville blood drives, conducted by Central Illinois Community Blood Center, are scheduled for June 18 at Carlinville Area Hospital and July 5 at the Elks Lodge.
Les Totsch of Carlinville has donated 22 gallons of blood over the years.
