Blessed by community support

Dear editor,

CARLINVILLE (Oct. 26, 2017) – Shop Local First held our second annual “Last Days of Summer” events in August, and we are happy to report that we felt that it was even more successful than last year. However, events of that size can’t happen without the help of so many bighearted individuals and organizations. Knowing that a letter to the editor including the vast list of people we would like to thank would be huge, we have instead placed an ad in this paper to recognize them. Please take a moment to look for the ad and be sure to mention to your friends on the list how much you enjoyed the events! Please forgive us if anyone was absentmindedly forgotten, because you are all so appreciated for your contributions. Shop Local First owes you all a huge debt of gratitude.

Congratulations to all the winners of the various events, and thank you to everyone who participated in the Chairs on Parade, the flotilla parade and squirt-gun fight, the food judging contest, the mostaccioli-eating contest sponsored by Reno’s Italian Pizzeria and Ristorante as well as the free mostaccioli dinner donated by Reno, Francesca and family, and the pie-eating contest! You were all great sports and we appreciate your involvement.

Because of your generosity in purchasing the decorated chairs at the Silent Auction, Shop Local First presented the Carlinville Fire Protection District with a check for $1216 to go towards their Help the Elf campaign that buys toys locally and gives them to local children for Christmas; which not only makes local children very happy; it also keeps dollars in our local economy! That’s what Shop Local First is all about!

All the fun and excitement of the events happened because of the generosity, commitment and involvement of so many individuals and organizations working together to bring some old-fashioned fun to our community. “A community that plays together, stays together!”

Thank you, Carlinville, for your support and participation in our “Last Days of Summer” events! We are already looking forward to next year’s events! See you there!
