Barbara J. Nichelson-Prose, 85

GIRARD (Oct. 5, 2017) – Barbara Jean Nichelson-Prose, 85, of Girard passed away Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 3, 2017, at Pleasant Hill Village in Girard.

Barbara was born Sept. 27, 1932, in Carlinville, a daughter of Thomas Edmund and Viola Frances Adcock Jennings and one of 12 siblings. Barbara graduated from Girard High School with the class of 1950.

She married James “Nick” Nichelson on Sept. 25, 1952, and he passed away on Oct. 17, 1980.  She later married Glenn William “Bill” Prose on Sept. 4, 1998.

Barb was employed for 26 years at the State Bank of Girard (FNB) as a bookkeeper and teller, retiring in 1997 as vice president of the bank. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren and enjoyed working as a Mary Kay Rep.  She loved to travel, go antiquing, cooking and baking.  Her greatest loves were spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dick, four sisters and seven brothers.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 6,   from 4-7 p.m. at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, 226 North 3rd Street in Girard. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 7, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Marty Nagel officiating. Burial will follow in Girard Cemetery next to her husband James.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Glenn William “Bill” Prose of Girard; daughter, Brenda (Terry) Miller of Fancy Prairie; daughter, Linda Coker of Waverly; son, James “Dud” (Pam) Nichelson of Springfield; son, Curt (Kathy) Nichelson of Girard; step-son, Mark (Lisa) Prose of Girard; step-son, Scott (Dena) Prose of St. Charles, Mo.; nephew, Billy Lee (Judy) Nichelson of Girard; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces an great-nephews.

Memorials may be made to Girard Fire and Rescue and the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
