Carlinville Area Auxiliary has awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Piasa Southwestern High School senior Benjamin Gallaher. He received his scholarship certificate during the school’s April 26 Awards Night ceremony.
Gallaher will attend Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. He has plans to major in pre-med, attend medical school and become a general practitioner.
“It is a tribute to our county schools that all 17 of our applicants were well qualified, as all of them were last year, as well,” said Auxiliary Scholarship Committee Leader Karen Lanzerotte. “That made our job of awarding the scholarship more difficult, but that’s a good problem to have.” Janet Steiner and Connie Whitehead are Lanzerotte’s colleagues on the committee, which reviews all of the applicants’ submitted documentation without knowing their names.
Applications for the next CAH Auxiliary medical scholarship, to be awarded in April 2018, will be distributed at the beginning of the next school year in August.
