Accidents
Brittney G. Short, 23, of Mt. Olive was involved in a single-vehicle accident Nov. 27 on East Frontage Road an estimated 50 feet south of Raushaapt Road in Staunton Township at approximately 6:26 p.m. Short, northbound in a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier, said a deer ran into the roadway. She was unable to avoid the animal and struck it. The vehicle sustained damage to its front. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued. The vehicle was driven from the scene of the accident.

Kenneth T. Mellenthin, 53, of Bethalto was involved in a single-vehicle accident Nov. 26 on Route 16 an estimated 200 feet east of Walker Road in Gillespie Township at approximately 6:37 p.m. Mellenthin, eastbound in a 2013 Hyundai Sonata, struck a deer in the roadway. The vehicle sustained damage to its front. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued. The vehicle was towed from the scene of the accident.

Katie L. Hopley, 27, of Hillsboro and Dale J. Voyles, 56, of Litchfield were involved in a two-vehicle accident Nov. 27 at the intersection of Route 16 and Macoupin Avenue in Cahokia Township at approximately 8:40 a.m. Voyles, driving a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, advised he stopped and had his turn signal on to turn west onto Route 16. Hopley, driving 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan, advised the Cobalt had its right turn signal on to turn eastbound, so Hopley came up alongside the Caravan to turn westbound onto Route 16 when Voyles’ Caravan turned into the side of the Cobalt. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued. The Caravan sustained passenger’s side damage while the Cobalt received front driver’s side damage. Both vehicles were driven from the scene of the accident.

Shawn T. Hazelip, 27, of Bunker Hill was involved in a single-vehicle accident Nov. 26 on Brighton-Bunker Hill Road and estimated 300 feet west of Dickson Lane in Bunker Hill Township at approximately 3:33 p.m. Hazelip, eastbound in a 1994 Dodge Spirit, left the roadway, according to the accident report. Hazelip was not able to regain control of the vehicle and then struck seven fence posts and a fire hydrant. Hazelip was unable to drive the vehicle from the scene. The Sheriff’s Office deputy contacted the Fosterburg water district and informed them of the damage done to the fire hydrant. No injuries were reported. Hazelip was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. The vehicle, which sustained driver’s side damage, was towed from the scene.

Kyle B. Greeley, 17, of Chesterfield was involved in multiple single-vehicle accidents Nov. 25 on Redington and Bonneville roads in Western Mound Township at approximately 6:55 a.m. Greeley, southbound in a 1994 Ford F-150, indicated his headlights became dim and he lost control of the vehicle, striking a ditch embankment to the west of Redington Road, a mailbox and post at 19865 Bonneville Road, a mailbox and post at 19840 Bonneville and a mailbox and post at 19783 Bonneville Road, all in Chesterfield. No injuries were reported. The vehicle sustained front and passenger’s side damage and was towed from the scene.

Wade N. Stults, 45, of Palmyra was involved in a single-vehicle accident Nov. 15 on Fosterburg Road an estimated 100 feet south of Hopkins Lane in Brighton Township at approximately 6:40 a.m. Stults, southbound in a 2005 Chevrolet Aveo, struck a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued. The vehicle sustained driver’s side damage and was driven from the scene.

Matthew S. Marburger, 49, of Carlinville was involved in a single-vehicle accident Nov. 17 on Shipman Road an estimated quarter mile north of Halliday Road in Polk Township at approximately 2:23 a.m. Marburger, northbound in a 2010 Chevrolet Impala, struck a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. The vehicle, which sustained driver’s side damage, was towed from the scene.
