5K to Wellness event Sept. 8
CARLINVILLE (June 21, 2018) – Carlinville Area Hospital Auxiliary’s eighth annual 5K to Wellness run/jog/walk experience will take place Saturday, Sept. 8, starting at the hospital located at the far north end of North Broad Street in Carlinville.
The one-mile fun run will begin at 8 a.m., followed by the 5K event at 8:30 a.m. Runners, joggers and walkers will wind through parts of Carlinville before returning to the hospital grounds at the end of the course.
Advance registration costs $20 for adults and $15 for children age 12 or younger. Everyone who registers prior to Aug. 24 will receive an event t-shirt. After Aug. 24, registration will cost $25 for adults and $20 for children under age 12. Registration will be available beginning at 7 a.m. on the day of the event; there is no guarantee that t-shirts or correct sizes will still be available for those who register after Aug. 24.
“This is a fitness run and a fun run… or walk,” said Jamie Bray, director of development for the hospital and liaison to the auxiliary. “And we’ve put a lot of fun into all of it. Besides the free t-shirts, we’ll have trophies for the top female and male in the 5K, medals for the first-place female and male in the one-mile fun run, medals for first-place finishers in eight age groups, and an award for every finisher age 12 or younger in each of the two races. There will also be free drinks and snacks for all participants after the races, and we’ll have really nice attendance prizes.”
For the first time, participants can register online and pay with a credit card by visiting eventbrite.com/e/8th-annual-5k-to-wellness-registration-45502966598. Hard copies of registration forms are available at Carlinville Area Hospital, Crowe Boot and Shoe, D&D Fitness and Shell stations in Brighton, Carlinville, Farmersville, Gillespie, Girard, Greenfield, Hillsboro, Litchfield, Raymond and Interstate 55 exit 60 (next to the Magnuson Grand Hotel). Applications will also be mailed to previous 5K to Wellness participants.
Paper applications and payment should be dropped off at the hospital or mailed to Jamie Bray, Carlinville Area Hospital, 20733 N. .Broad St., Carlinville, IL 62626. Make checks payable to Carlinville Area Hospital Auxiliary/5K. All advance registration applications are due no later than Friday, Aug. 24.
Again this year, the hospital is sponsoring its free Community Wellness Fair on the same day on the hospital grounds from 8-10 a.m. The purpose is to promote wellness, fitness and fun for the whole family; the wellness fair will include giveaways, prizes and surprises.
A new addition this year is that prospective participants in the 5K to Wellness program will have an opportunity to prepare for that event in a new program. “We’re hosting a Couch to 5K,” said Bray. “It’s a completely voluntary program for anyone who wants to gain enough confidence and stamina to take part in our 5K event. The program allows people of any age to ‘get off the couch’ and go at their own pace toward the run, jog or walk challenge on Sept. 8.”
For planning purposes, the Couch to 5K leaders ask that anyone who wants to participate in the six-week program complete and submit a 5K to Wellness registration form, along with their $20 registration fee, by Monday, July 23. Participants will meet early in the morning on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday for six weeks, starting on July 30. Volunteers from the hospital and auxiliary will be on hand each day during the six weeks to counsel and coach the program’s “couchers.”
