Rotary Students of the quarter named

CARLINVILLE (Jan. 11, 2018) – The Carlinville Rotary has announced that the middle school students of the quarter, chosen by their teachers for the second quarter of the 2017-18 school year, are Angeline Raines, sixth grade; Tomas Cottingham, seventh grade; and Zayn Long, eight grade.

Raines is the daughter of Amy Sherwood. According to the press release issued by Rotary, “Angeline possesses all the traits that make up a great student. She is hard-working at all times, whether she is doing classwork or helping her teachers and classmates. Her cheerful nature and bright smile are contagious. She is always encouraging to her peers, and she works to make everyone feel welcome and included in class activities. Angeline happily works with anyone in the classroom. She is truly a joy to have at school.”

Nottingham is the son of Terry and Dawn Cottingham and was chosen for his “exemplary character and leadership,” according to the press release. “He is always polite and respectful towards peers and adults at school. Tomas participates on the Scholastic Bowl team and serves as secretary on student council. As secretary of the student council, he records accurate minutes and contributes ideas that promote enthusiasm and school spirit. Tomas is an ideal student and role model at Carlinville Middle School.”

Long is the son of Andrea Little and Brian Little and the late Scott “Howie” Long. “Zayn is full of school spirit and doesn’t miss an opportunity to participate in activities,” states the press release. “His enthusiasm is contagious as he promotes a positive school atmosphere. Zayn is always willing to help anyone in need. He has a delightful sense of humor. In addition, Zayn is an excellent student, and his academic abilities and leadership skills are appreciated by both his classmates and his teachers.”
