With the heat and humidity a factor, Saturday’s Rochester Invitational was shortened to two miles and started earlier in the morning.
The Carlinville Cavaliers placed in the top three in both races, with the girls taking third and the boys second.
On the girls’ side, Rochester had five of the top 11 times and won the team competition with 32 points. Second was Petersburg Porta, which had the top runner in Adrienne Brauer, finishing in 11:50.
Carlinville took third with 87 points, followed by Williamsville at 119 and Taylorville 169.
Colleen Madden was fifth overall in 12:10, with Jacey Roper eighth at 12:18. Madelynn Williams finished 22nd at 13:32; Molly Lewis, 13:45; Mackenzie Harris, 14:10; Stasia Nejmanowski, 14:14; Ryleigh Gibbel, 14:33; Kamryn Bremer, 16:00; Bailey Cox, 16:26; Rachel Strubbe, 16:46; Justice Brock, 17:11; Abby Fleischer, 23:04.
The boys’ team was second with 62 points, trailing only Taylorville with 40 points. CNCA was third at 114, followed by Pleasant Plains and Rochester.
Tyler Johnson of Pleasant Plains outlasted Cory Landon of Carlinville 9:49 to 9:50 to win the race. Nolan Kreipe finished in the top 10, ninth at 10:39. Jason Landon was 11th at 10:46, and Charles Helton IV 22nd at 11:24. Samuel Mock was 24th at 11:28. Grayson Armour finished at 11:44; Jacob Landon, 11:48; Bailey Lippold, 11:53; Jack Kufa, 13:56; Seth Evans, 14:02.
CUTLINE: The Carlinville cross-country team wore Bosco the Super Fan t-shirts during its first home meet Sept. 1 at Loveless Park. The team wore them for long-time CHS sports supporter and enthusiast Harry “Bosco” Lesko. He had left the meet before being formally honored, but hopes are to honor him at another home meet.
